James Morrison opens up on Tammer Bany's West Brom absence and Shrewsbury friendly win
The attacker was absent for Saturday’s friendly win at Shrewsbury - and did not feature in earlier training ground match.
Boss James Morrison revealed Albion are “building up” Tammer Bany in training to ensure he can make a return to fitness.
The attacker did not feature for either Baggies side on Saturday, as one outfit won 4-1 at Shrewsbury Town and another side were beaten 3-1 behind closed doors at the training ground by Notts County.
Bany picked up a hamstring injury on the final day of last season at Sheffield Wednesday and has been working on his own fitness programme during pre-season.
The Jordan international stepped into full training in the last couple of weeks but was not deemed ready to feature in either fixture - while Mikey Johnston, on his way back from February’s broken ankle, played 45 minutes behind closed doors.
“Tammer has been training now for 10 days, so we are just progressing him nicely,” Morrison said after Albion ran out 4-1 winners at Shrewsbury.

“He’ll play some minutes maybe with the under-21s, or maybe as the games go on he can feature, but at this moment in time he is just building up his fitness.
“At Sheffield Wednesday he tweaked his hamstring.
“With Tammer, if you asked him, he’s as frustrated as anyone. He is desperate to play football. We have got to be mindful of what has happened previously so that we can get it right and get him on the pitch.
“(Nobody knows what he is capable of) so that is why we have got to try and build him up and get it right this time, there have been too many times…you can feel for the lad, he’s come over wanting to impress and he just hasn’t got started yet. We’ll get it right.”
Albion enjoyed a useful afternoon’s work in Shrewsbury with a second 4-1 victory over League Two opposition in just over a week after the Portugal success against Bromley.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan continued his exciting start to Baggies life with a double before half-time to put Morrison’s men in a commanding position.
Harry Whitwell had opened the scoring. Morgan added a deft second before Isaac Fletcher pulled one back.
Aune Heggebo nodded in a late fourth for the dominant Baggies.
“It was (a good work out), it was a different task really,” Morrison added of the 4-1 win in Shropshire.
“With how the opposition set up we had to be really good with the ball and I felt we stuck to that and tried to do the right things at the right times. We had some good attacking play.
“We had two games today and tried to emphasise 90 minutes for every player and we got that.
“There were no injuries, we scored four goals. I was a bit disappointed with the spell where the goal came from, I think it derailed us for five minutes, I thought it was a foul to be honest, it was right in front of me.
“Then we got right back to it and stuck with it.”
