West Brom player ratings with 8s in convincing Shrewsbury friendly win

Albion correspondent Lewis Cox rates the players in comfortable 4-1 friendly win at League Two Shrewsbury.

James Morrison’s men ran out comfortable winners with Jimmy-Jay Morgan, twice, Harry Whitwell and Aune Heggebo on target.

Earlier in the day elsewhere the Baggies were beaten 3-1 at their training ground in a behind closed doors clash against Notts County, of League One.

Max O'Leary

A bystander for the most part. One wobble in possession almost punished but led to Shrews goal. Well beaten by Fletcher for goal.

Mixed 6

ALEX WILLIAMS

Like against Bromley the youngster showed some ambitious stuff from right-back. Always busy on the front foot trying to make inroads and things happen.

Bright 7

CHRIS MEPHAM

Defended well for the most part. Got a couple of important blocks and clearances in, despite little threat coming from hosts. Nodded on for third goal.

Steady 7

GEORGE CAMPBELL

One or two wobbles in the first period with one errant ball unpunished. Thought he was felled for Shrewsbury's goal. Otherwise not especially tested.

OK 6

CALLUM STYLES

Not as involved in the final third as might have been expected from the left-back who looked bright in Portugal. Unable to make too many raids.

Quieter 6

HARRY WHITWELL

Really excelled. Opened the scoring with a fine strike and saw another rocket from range well saved early on. Fired just wide in first half but looked very bright, sharp and kept making things happen both starting on right and drifting in.

Standout 8

OUSMANE DIAKITE

A mixed bag but plenty involved. One loose ball sold Campbell short in first half but otherwise tried to move the ball well where he could. A couple of punts at goal, one cracked the bar from range.

Busy 7

ALEX MOWATT

Caught the eye with a really purposeful display. Moved the ball well and his delivery from dead balls and open play caught the eye. Was a real source of creativity for his side. Had the armband again.

Leader 8

ISAAC PRICE

Continued to impress this season and had a really eye-catching first half in particular. Seems to be playing with his chest out on the left flank in a 'pocket' position, as Morrison references.

Strong 7

AUNE HEGGEBO

Grabbed a deserved late fourth goal with a cool header from close range. Typically worked tirelessly in his pressing and involved in first goal.

Poached 7

JIMMY-JAY MORGAN

Livewire and everywhere again, even if not all came off. Struck side netting, post before deft, cool opener with chip. Flicked in poacher's finish for third. Crossed for fourth.

Exciting 8
