Dorrans nets Scotland call

Albion midfielder Graham Dorrans today answered a Scotland World Cup SOS as he was called up to face Holland on Wednesday.

The Baggies youngster could win his first full international cap at Hampden Park in the Tartan Army's vital qualifier.

Dorrans and Cardiff's Gavin Rae were both called up today to replace Birmingham's James McFadden and Preston's Callum Davidson, who are both injured.

Celtic's Scott Brown is also an injury doubt for the tough clash with the Dutch, meaning Dorrans could make his full international debut just days after speaking to the Express & Star about his Scotland ambitions.

The former Livingston man, aged 22, has played for his country at youth and under-21 level and received a 'B' call-up last season only to be forced out by injury.

The call-up came as Dorrans spoke about learning from new Baggies head coach Roberto Di Matteo on the club's training ground.

The youngster has been lining up alongside the former Chelsea midfield man in training and is hoping some of the Italian's experience will rub off.

"He still gets involved in training but I think he has always been in my team when we've trained," said Dorrans.

"There are people you look up to when you're younger and he was one so I can learn a lot from someone like him, who played in the same position as me.

"Hopefully I can carry that forward and it can rub off on me in games and I can learn from these experiences.

"I think his legs might have gone a bit now but he still has the touches he has always had.

"He can be massive for me.

"I can learn a lot from someone who has played in the same position and can give me pointers."

Scotland can secure a play-off place on Wednesday night if they beat Holland at Hampden Park and results in Group Three go their way.

A draw would leave Scotland on 11 points, and would require a highly unlikely combination of results to go their way on Wednesday night and beyond.
