The on-loan Wigan midfielder made an impressive debut in the 3-1 win over Derby at the Hawthorns on Saturday. after joining for the rest of the season.

Cox believes the former Crystal Palace player has the ability to become a hero with his team-mates at Albion.

He said: "Ben is very decent and he's good technically. He's probably been an unsung hero in a lot of teams he's played in. He keeps the boys ticking along, gets moves started, gets on the ball and switches play well.

"He's not one for getting on the end of crosses but he's good at getting on the ball. He's got a good range of passing and he'll do well for us.

"We've got good players in that area like Youssouf Mulumbu and Graham Dorrans, but if the gaffer thought he needed to strengthen in that area then he's brought in a good player."

Cox was today enjoying the final day of his extended break before returning to training tomorrow.

The forward had been given three days off, after not being named in the Republic of Ireland squad to face Brazil tonight despite making himself available.

He said: "I didn't get my call up but I will keep going forward to see if I get one later on."
