Albion were in cruise control as they swept aside Norwich in a one sided encounter at The Hawthorns this afternoon.

Despite the 2-0 scoreline it was one way traffic as the Baggies completely dominated their hapless opponents.

QPR's surprise win at Charlton dumped Norwich to the bottom of the Championship before kick-off - and they looked every inch a team in desperate trouble.

In fact the only surprise was that Albion did not rack up more goals after creating a catalogue of chances.

Norwich did win a corner inside a minute but that was as good as it got for the visitors in the first half as Albion dominated from start to finish.

They were duly rewarded when Ishmael Miller headed home from point blank range after Bostjan Cesar had directed Jonathan Greening's corner back across goal.

Denied

The Baggies were denied by goalline clearances from Simon Russell and Simon Lappin during that first period, while Kevin Phillips also stabbed wide from close range.

The clinching second goal arrived only six minutes after the restart when Phillips had the freedom of the penalty area to convert Miller's excellent left-wing cross.

Phillips was denied a second by an offside flag and an excellent save from Norwich keeper David Marshall.

But in truth the Baggies dropped down the gears during the final half an hour as they cruised towards the finishing line against a team in desperate need of an injection of confidence that only the arrival of a new manager will provide.

After back-to-back away defeats at Southampton and Colchester successive home wins against Blackpool and Norwich this week was exactly what Albion needed to get their campaign back on track.

And this performance will have undoubtedly done their confidence no harm ahead of their crunch trip to leaders Watford next week.

This victory means Albion have moved to within six points of the Hornets - although Aidy Boothroyd's side don't play until Monday when they travel to Crystal Palace.
