Born in Darlaston in 1937, Drury signed for the Baggies in 1954 before turning professional in 1955.

A tough-tackling midfielder, he made his first-team debut at Bolton in 1958.

Under the guidance of manager Gordon Clark, he then established himself as a first-team regular during the 1959/60 campaign.

Drury netted just one goal for the club – which came in a famous 5-1 victory over Wolves at Molineux in March 1962.

In total he made 160 appearances for the Baggies before transferring to Bristol City in 1964.

He enjoyed three seasons with the Robins – making over 50 appearances for the club and scoring two goals.

He then closed out his career with a spell in non-league at Bradford Park Avenue.

A statement on Albion’s website said: “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”
