Darren Moore: Use West Brom draw as a platform

Caretaker boss Darren Moore has urged Albion to use today's draw with Swansea as a platform to build something more positive.

The Baggies stopped the rot with a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns in Moore's first game in charge, bringing an end to a disastrous nine-game losing streak that has left them destined for the drop.

Moore was pleased with his players and praised the Albion fans for creating an atmosphere the team could thrive on.

He is due to stay in temporary charge of the side until the end of the season, and hopes the draw will spark a late revival.

"We've managed to stop the rot today," said Moore. "My message to everybody at West Brom, is well done, enjoy this one because we've stopped the rot, but let's make it the platform to build something more positive going forward."

Albion took the lead ten minutes into the second half through Jay Rodriguez's tenth goal of the season.

But Tammy Abraham's header levelled things up 15 minutes from time after Chris Brunt conceded a needless corner.

Although the Baggies have now lost 26 points from winning positions this season, Albion put in an improved performance at The Hawthorns which suggested that under Moore, they would at least go down fighting.

"Hopefully you saw a West Brom team that right from the off set about going out to be positive in everything that they did," said Moore. "They played on the front foot, wanted to take the game to Swansea.

"There were some real good performances out there today, and it was a good team performance.

"The way the boys managed the ball was excellent, when we didn't have the ball we worked hard to win it back.

"Swansea can use the ball really well and if you sit off them they've got some good players.

"We tried to break them down. I was pleased to see some of the aspects we worked on in training being executed today."

Apart from a flat 20 minutes in the first half when nothing much happened on the pitch, the Albion fans were in fine voice throughout.

Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal described the Baggies supporters as 'amazing' in his post-match press conference, saying: "They are in a very bad position and they almost filled the stadium.

"They gave a very positive atmosphere to the team. This is amazing in my opinion."

And his positive sentiments were echoed by Moore.

"The fans have got to realise that they're an important part of this club, the club thrives on them and the atmosphere they create," said Albion's caretaker. "I was proud to stand out there in the technical area today and represent this football club as a manager.

"The players were excellent, the supporters were excellent, everybody's come together for this game.

"That was my message in the week, strength and unity, and we certainly had that today.

"We came out with a positive result and it could have been so different - it has been so different in recent weeks leading upto this."

Despite the renewed fight, Albion's vulnerabilities when in front were laid bare once more.

Abraham's equaliser was a sloppy one to concede, because Brunt should have cleared the ball before giving away a corner, and Jake Livermore was beaten in the air.

Moore confirmed he would go over the goal with his team on the training ground next week, but was pleased with the reaction to the equaliser.

"Being a former centre back myself and it being a set play you always look at it," admitted Moore. "I've only seen it once, I've not had a slow-mo replay or anything. We'll assess it.

"But more than anything I can't and will not be disappointed because of the response after it. I was really pleased with that. It brought a warmth in me.

"Credit to them, they showed a lot of composure, resilience, courage, and togetherness, and a willingness to work and encourage each other. I saw all those aspects."
