West Brom may need a boost in January, admits boss Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew admits his Albion squad might need a boost in the January transfer window and has refused to rule out selling Jonny Evans. The Baggies spent Christmas in the bottom three after extending their winless streak to 18 games in all competitions with defeat at Stoke on Saturday.

Pardew reckons his squad does have enough quality to avoid the drop but is still hoping to freshen it up with a couple of faces.

"From what I have seen from the games we have played I would say so yes, there is (enough quality)," he said. "Sometimes you do still need a boost in that window and we might need to look at it.

"So I have to absorb the Stoke game and then address the games against Everton and Arsenal before we see where we are.

"I am still learning and seeing things at the moment. In terms of the group we have to see how these results go in the next three or four games. And then probably react from that."

Pardew has limited funds in January and will need to off-load players in order to fund major additions.

Evans is a target for both Manchester giants, Arsenal, and Everton, and could fetch as much as £30million in the window.

Pardew admitted he couldn't guarantee he would stay at the club, because he's been burnt making promises like that before.

"I think it would be a blow to us to lose him obviously if that was the case," said Pardew.

"I lost Andy Carroll on the last day of the window and I think we’d already said he wouldn’t leave so I won’t go down that road again.

"I thought he (Evans) was great (on Saturday) like a number of players, we had a really good performance. We deserved something."

Albion went two-nil down in the first half but got back into the game with a Salomon Rondon goal before Stoke wrapped up the points at the death.

"I have got to find seven wins and if we had not made the errors we made we might have got a win," said Pardew. "I am the type of manager who likes to take the game to the opposition, but I don’t want us to get stretched.

"I was really disappointed we conceded with the last kick of the game because we didn’t deserve that.

"There’s a lot of things which will make me more clear in my mind about how we will get those wins following today’s game."
