Despite dominating possessionm Villa forced visiting keeper Mark Schwarzer into only one save all game, with Gareth Barry and Steve Sidwell both guilty of blowing presentable opportunities.

The result leaves Villa fourth in the table, level on points with Manchester United and ahead of Arsenal, but with both those sides not playing this was a chance missed.

After fine results against the Gunners and United in the last fortnight, this was a return to the disappointment of the previous two games against Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

If Villa are to seriously expect to mount a challenge on a Champions League place this season, then they can ill afford further repeats.

Fulham were worthy of their point for some sound defending and Villa fans made their feelings clear when they booed at the final whistle.
