Bruce was yesterday confirmed as Wednesday’s new manager, replacing the sacked Jos Luhukay.

But due to a prior personal commitment, the 58-year-old won’t begin work at Hillsborough until February 1.

Instead, Bruce’s assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence will take caretaker charge. Lee Bullen, under whom Wednesday remained unbeaten in four games follow Luhukay’s exit, will also stay on the coaching staff.

Bruce has been out of work since being axed by Villa in October.

The former Blues and Hull boss spent two years in charge, narrowly missing out on promotion last season when Villa were beaten 1-0 by Fulham in the play-off final.

Villa, now managed by Dean Smith, visit Wednesday on April 6.
