The duo, who are both from Aldridge, will compete at the prestigious event which takes place in Dublin in August.

Simmonds, who is a five-time Paralympic champion, has recently returned to action following a year’s break from the sport.

Last week the 23-year-old criticised British Swimming for ‘not being there for her’ over the past two years.

“I felt I had something to prove to British Swimming,” she said.

Meanwhile Kearney, 21, will compete in her first major event since the 2015 World Championships.

The swimmer, who has a diagnosis of Dystonia, has struggled with injury over the past few years.

But the British record breaker won gold – despite losing her goggles – in the Women’s MC 200m Freestyle at a Para-swimming International Meet in Sheffield last week.

“I’m ecstatic to announce I’ve been selected to the GB team for the European Champs,” she said.

“Thanks to those who continued to believe in me on my difficult journey.”

Coach Rob Aubry added: “We have great para-swimmers who can beat the world’s best.”
