Wolves' David Edwards and West Brom's James Chester in Wales' Euro 2016 squad

Wolves' David Edwards and Albion's James Chester have both been named in Wales' squad for the European Championships.

Manager Chris Coleman named his 23 this afternoon and, as expected, Edwards and Chester were both included.

Edwards becomes the first Wolves player named in a British squad for a major championships since Steve Bull went to the 1990 World Cup in Italy with England.

His involvement in the tournament was in doubt earlier this year when he broke his foot during a 1-1 draw at QPR in late January.

The initial diagnosis was a 12-week absence, but Edwards returned two weeks earlier than expected to make six appearances at the end of the season.

He has 31 Wales caps to his name and will compete with Joe Allen, Joe Ledley, Andy King, Aaron Ramsey, Jonathan Williams, David Vaughan and George Williams for a midfield berth.

Edwards has been a regular in the squad of late, starting the games against Cyprus and Israel last September and then coming off the bench versus Bosnia and Andorra in October as Wales sealed qualification.

Chester has 10 caps for Wales and the 27-year-old has played the full 90 minutes for Chris Coleman's team in each of their last four games.

Although Baggies head coach Tony Pulis plays the former Hull man at right-back, he is normally used at centre-back for his country.

Coleman warned Chester earlier this season when he couldn't get into the Albion team that his place was under threat, but a run of games under Pulis in the second half of the season has cemented him in the squad.

Walsall's Tom Bradshaw was in contention for a place in the squad after scoring 20 goals in 2015/16, but a calf injury ruled him out last week.

Former Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey makes the squad and is almost certain to take the number one jersey after an impressive season in the Premier League with Crystal Palace.

And Wolverhampton-born Ashley Williams, who started his career with Hednesford Town, will captain the side.

Wales, competing in a major tournament for the first time since 1958, are in Group B along with England, Russia and Slovakia.
