Former Wolves players from two of the most successful teams in the club's history regaled tales of yesteryear at special reunion dinner.

Ex-striker and current talkSPORT host Andy Gray was joined by the likes of Kenny Hibbitt and John Richards at the event at the Copthorne Hotel near Merry Hill, last night.

They were joined by other members of the League Cup-winning teams of 1974 and 1980, including Geoff Palmer, Mel Eves, Willie Carr and Mike Bailey.

And as well as reminiscing about their famous win wearing old gold and black, the former stars gave their views on the current crop of players fighting for Premier League survival.

"It's sad to see them struggling, they don't find themselves in the best of positions," said Gray, who fired in 38 goals in 133 games for Wolves.

"The long-term needs to be sorted, whether that is with the current manager or not, they need to get that sorted and give that person time like they did with Mick McCarthy." Gray, who scored the winner in the 1980 League Cup final against Nottingham Forest, said meeting some of his old teammates was a "pleasure".

He said:?"This is the sort of thing that will happen less and less in the future because of the influx of foreign players who will disappear to their home countries at the end of their playing careers."

The reunion dinner helped to raise funds for Compton Hospice.

Fans who had booked a table were able to bid for a host of treasured memorabilia.
