A trainee butcher from Wolverhampton has proved he is a cut above after winning a regional apprenticeship award.
Josh Brown, aged 19, has been named Apprenticeship of the Year 2011 after spending a year working at Essington Fruit Farm.
The East Park-based NVQ student works full-time at the South Staffordshire farm and was nominated for the award by his tutor at Telford College.
He was presented with a certificate and trophy at the regional finals in Ironbridge and is now in the running for the national Apprentice of the Year Award.
Since joining the farm Josh has been working with butcher John Booth learning to take traditional cuts and make pork pies — one of which won gold in the English winter fair in Stafford last Christmas. He has also learned to cure bacon and make sausages.
Josh is now being considered for a shortlist for the award finals, which will take place in London next month.
