Shoppers support fundraising for Stourbridge wildfire victims with special event

Shoppers join community to raise money for wildfire victims

A special community fundraising event in aid of the Stourbridge wildfire families has raised almost £1,000.

Organisers at the town’s Ryemarket Shopping Centre joined forces with Back2House Radio to host Stand Together for Stourbridge a raffle prize draw and collection on August 22 which raised £778.21.

An additional £100 each was donated by cafeThe Sugar Loaf which was a pledged portion of their sales on the same day and Pinewood Retreat Glamping based in Kidderminster Road, Bewdley bringing the total raised to £978.21.

The kind act was in response to the fire disaster which struck the Norton community on August 13 resulting in 19 homes with being completely gutted, three firefighters and one child taken to hospital and six other members of the public treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

The major incident was caused when two fires started accidentally on farmland where agricultural machinery were being used. The flames lames spread from fields to nearby streets including Quarry Park Road and the Stourbridge Golf Course bordered by Worcester Lane and Racecourse Lane.

Back2House praised the prize donors said that the sum collected was due to be handed to education project The Fine Collective to distribute on behalf of the community.

Prizes offered included a pasty hamper from Cornish Pasty Box, football coaching from We make Footballers, treatment at 100% Asthetics & Beauty Academy, wellness classes at pilates centre Isletta Reform Studio, £100 voucher from Patchwork Carpets & Flooring.

The radio station posted on Facebook: “The Stourbridge fires have had a devastating impact on our local community, and for us - this hits incredibly close to home. Some of our own family and friends have been directly affected.

“Stourbridge isn’t just where our station headquarters is - it’s our home. And when our community needs us, we stand together.”
