Train shortages sees services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham cancelled

Ticket acceptance is in place along the route

A series of issues facing the Transport for Wales network has seen trains cancelled or delayed across the West Midlands.

Transport for Wales (TfW) said services were cancelled between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street or Birmingham International on Tuesday (July 14) because of a shortage of trains.

The operator said that “more trains than usual are needing repairs at the same time” and disruption along the line was expected until the end of the day.

A TfW spokesperson said: “We expect to have a reduced number of trains available on Tuesday, July 14, whilst our depot teams continue to work to ensure our on board air conditioning is fully functional.”

As a result of the shortage, services were forced to start and terminate at Wolverhampton instead of Birmingham New Street or Birmingham International. Disruption was expected until 8pm.

West Midlands Railway, CrossCountry and Avanti West Coast services were still running between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, with no extra charge for TfW customers.

The issue was also affecting TfW services between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth, and rail replacement buses had been organised to run until the end of the day.

Elsewhere in Shropshire, a track defect on the Heart of Wales Line near Craven Arms saw the blocked between Craven Arms and Llandrindod.

It meant that train services heading from Swansea to Shrewsbury were terminating at Llandrindod for road transport, and train services from Shrewsbury to Swansea were starting at Llandrindod.

Replacement buses were running along the line until 4pm and customers were being advised to allow extra time to complete journeys.
