£2.8m leisure centre revamp begins across Cannock Chase
A major £2.8 million investment to upgrade leisure facilities across Cannock Chase has officially got under way, marking the start of what operators are calling a “new era” for health and fitness in the area.
The project, led by Everyone Active in partnership with Cannock Chase District Council, will see improvements rolled out over the next six months at several key sites.
The leisure operator, which took over management of facilities including Rugeley Leisure Centre, Chase Leisure Centre and Golf Course and Fives Pavilion and Sports Ground on April 1, has begun the first phase of refurbishment work this week.

Work started on Monday, April 13 at Rugeley Leisure Centre, where a new group cycling studio is being created as part of a three-week project. The facility will replace an existing storeroom and feature 18 new Technogym bikes, alongside a redesigned, modern interior.
Further improvements at both Rugeley and Chase leisure centres are expected to be announced in the coming months, with plans including upgraded gyms and additional facilities.
Everyone Active, which is headquartered in Leicestershire and operates around 250 sites nationwide in partnership with more than 70 local authorities, has secured a 10-year contract to run leisure services in the district.
Everyone Active’s area contract manager, Dan Mclean, said: “We’ve had a fantastic start to life in Cannock Chase and it’s been great to meet our new customers and colleagues and to begin to embed ourselves in the local community.
“The refurbishment works across the contract are hugely exciting and will ensure we deliver the state-of-the-art facilities our customers deserve. No matter what your age, interests or ability, there is something for you at your local leisure centre.
“We look forward to the completion of the group cycling studio at Rugeley Leisure Centre and announcing further developments over the coming months.”
