£20 million Wolverhampton regeneration scheme expanded to include extra estate
Residents invited to have their say on Pride in Place initiative
A £20 million Government-funded scheme to rejuvenate the Low Hill area of Wolverhampton has been expanded to cover a neighbouring estate.
The Low Hill Pride in Place project has had its boundaries expanded to take in The Scotlands, as well as a wider area of the Bushbury and Low Hill areas.
The news has been welcomed by Wolverhampton North East MP Sureena Brackenridge, who said it was an important step in ensuring more communities had the opportunity to benefit from the funding.
She called on people in the area to take full advantage by having their say on where they would like money to be spent.
Mrs Brackenridge said: “I was determined that this funding should make a real difference to the places people call home. The expansion of the boundary means residents in The Scotlands, alongside those across Bushbury South and Low Hill Ward, can be part of shaping that future.
“Now I want people to get involved, tell us what matters to them and help us make sure this investment delivers lasting benefits for our communities.”
Chairman of the Low Hill Pride in Place board Chris Allen welcomed the expanded boundary and the opportunity for residents in The Scotlands to contribute to the programme.
He said: “I’ve worked extensively across The Scotlands in the past, and I know just how much pride people have in their community. Places like this have a strong identity, a real sense of belonging and people who care deeply about where they live.
“Too often, communities feel that decisions are made about them rather than with them. Pride in Place is an opportunity to change that. These communities are fiercely proud, and it is time they are done with, rather than done to. With The Scotlands now included, residents will have the opportunity to help shape the investment, set the priorities and decide what will make the biggest difference to their neighbourhood.
"I am glad to see the expanded boundary bring in even more crucial community facilities. The Big Venture and Stratton Street, amongst many others, are hubs for their communities, and will bring vital support for the programme."
Residents across the expanded area are invited to a public meeting at Low Hill Community Centre on Thursday (29).
The meeting will present residents with the findings of an initial consultation, update them on discussions so far, and give them the chance to share their views on what the programme should achieve.
Refreshments will be available from 6pm, with the meeting starting at 6.30pm.
Residents can also contribute their views through a survey on the website lowhillpip.com
