The biker, named today as Peter Smith, 57, remains in hospital with multiple fractures after his red and silver Kawasaki crashed into the central reservation.

It happened on the northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 and around 3.40pm on July 14.

Pc Claire Byrne, from the force's Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The motorway was fairly busy at the time and I am very keen to hear from any motorists using the M5 who may have seen what happened or have any information to contact me."
