New vicar's lights fear

Stourport's new vicar has seen red over dangers at traffic lights near her church and is backing a campaign for safety measures.

The move by the Rev Eva McIntyre follows parishioners' concern about difficulties of reaching St Michael and All Angels Church in the town.

She says drivers trying to reach the church are at risk because there is no right filter system on the lights.

"It is a wonder anyone reaches the church. There is no filter system and it is just lethal for people reaching the lights at Minster Road and trying to turn right into Church Drive. People either sit there endlessly on a red light or pull out in front of other people.

"It must be extremely difficult for funeral processions. There is a petition to get something done about this and I am going to sign it to try to get something done about this."

Rev McIntyre, aged 45, recently inducted as vicar of St Michael and All Angels and of All Saints, Wilden, was formerly based at Brockhill Women's Prison near Redditch.

She said: "When I saw the details of the parish I just knew it was what I wanted.

"But I do hate the traffic lights and something should be done to prevent an accident."

She was ordained 22 years ago and worked with three rural churches in North Wales before going to Redditch. She has also worked with Christian Aid and for religious broadcasting and radio.
