After leaving school she worked at a lock factory in the town where she met her late husband Ronald, known as Ron. They tied the knot at the former Little London Baptist Church in Temple Bar, now Mount Olive Apostolic Church, on December 17, 1946.

They lived at Waddens Brook Lane in Wednesfield for around 60 years where they raised their two children Gary and Wendy, before they moved to Bramley Court in nearby Amos Lane in later life. They were married for 67 years before Ron sadly died aged 89 in 2013.

Mary subsequently moved to Waterside House care home in Moathouse Lane West in 2021 where her family says she is very happy despite having poor eyesight.
