Police recovered a firearm and ammunition after local neighbourhood officers moved in to remove a bus which had been a hotspot for anti-social behaviour in Bushbury.

The 'bed bus', parked up on Kipling Road, had been converted for a number of people to sleep in, but it was found to have no insurance and there was evidence of drug use as well as it being used for prostitution.

On Friday, January 30, with the support of local partners, officers from Low Hill moved in to remove the vehicle but following initial searches officers went on to serve a firearms warrant on it.

Further searches by firearms officers resulted in a pistol being located which was seized along with four shotgun cartridges.

The self-loading pistol, which is undergoing further forensic examinations, is believed to be blank firing, but can be converted to become a viable firearm or can be used to imitate a viable firearm. It is illegal to own such a weapon.

A quantity of suspected class A drugs was also seized and is being forensically analysed. The bus has also been removed and seized for further examinations as investigations continue.

Inspector Martin Danher said: “This was an involved piece of work from one of our dedicated neighbourhood officers and the local team with support from firearms officers.

“The bed bus has been misused  and instead has been used as a hub for crime and ASB,  a firearm and ammunition have also been taken off our streets.”
