It was spotted at 9.45am with the black smoke continuing to spread across the city.

This image was taken from Mander House in the city centre.

The fire, on Sweetman Street, involved house furniture being burned in the garden of a property.

West Midlands Fire Service crew were called to the scene shortly after 9.55am.

A spokesman for the service said: "A fire engine and 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Wolverhampton attended, arriving within five minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a fire involving house furniture being burned in the garden of a residential property. Smoke had entered the rear of the house and into a garage.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire in the garden, which started accidentally.

"Crews cleared the smoke using natural ventilation and offered advice to the occupant. We left the scene at 10.42am."

One resident said: "The flames were quite big. The new people who owned (the house) have been clearing the back garden.

"I think they were just burning some stuff and it got out of hand."

Des, another resident on the street, added: "Somebody was clearing (the house). Maybe it just caught fire – it went down pretty fast."
