We take a look and a bite out of a unique kebab available across the West Midlands
Our resident foodie takes a bite out of the newest kebab on sale at a popular restaurant chain.
Ask most people on a night out after a few drinks what they might fancy for a late meal and you’ll be heading for either a curry or a kebab.
Both are very popular and very delicious treats in different ways, from the spices and sauces to the quality of the meat and fillings, but what happens if you combine the two?
German Doner Kebab (GDK) has been making a name for itself as the place to go for quality food, with its kebabs providing a hot, tasty and welcoming meal and a nice change to the saturated kebab market.
With a wide range of beef and chicken kebabs, served either in the signature waffle bread or as a wrap, burrito or quesadilla, as well as in boxes and bowls and as a burger, the GDK range has become very popular with foodies, with stores in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Merry Hill and West Bromwich.

The chain is continually looking to update its menu, from the main meals to the side orders and the sauces, and produce items which make people want to come in and enjoy something different.
To this end, GDK have added to their extensive list of sauces, which include yogurt, garlic, spicy and inferno by creating a sauce which pays tribute to the unofficial national dish of England.
GDK has just joined forces with Shish Mahal in Glasgow, the original inventors of Chicken Tikka Masala, to develop a bespoke, limited-edition Tikka Masala sauce and cooling Raita and bring authentic Tikka Masala flavours to restaurants all over the country.
I like a curry and have appreciated a good chicken Tikka Masala in the past, so I was keen to see if the sauce combination with the quality meat and, living in Wolverhampton, the GDK restaurant on Queen Street was the setting for my visit to try the sauce and the kebab.

The restaurant was busy, with students from Wolverhampton College and University having lunch together and a steady stream of delivery drivers coming in to pick up orders from a restaurant that was clean, warm and had staff working hard and providing a friendly welcome.
The staff remembered me from when I tried the Inferno Kebab, a hot, spicy and more intense meal than what I was going to try this time, and gave me a warm welcome as they took my order.
I ordered the Boss Box, which costs £13.99 and consists of the Tikka Masala OG Kebab, with Curry sauce on it, served with a portion of doughnut balls, a side of Inferno Fries, three Signature Sauces and a can of Dr Pepper, and prepared myself for the gastronomic experience ahead.
I could smell the sauce on the very ample chicken and beef kebab, with lettuce, onions and tomato, as well as a liberal sprinkling of the curry sauce, as it arrived at my table, with the sauce glistening on top of the fries.

It's lucky GDK provide napkins and a fork as this is a messy meal when you pick it up, with meal and salad falling onto the tray, but the first bite revealed a rich taste, of excellent and well-seasoned chicken and beef doner and crispy salad.
The sauce was also tangy and rich and with a small kick, but was very flavourful and mixed well with the waffle bread, nice and crisp, and I worked my way through it in quick time, enjoying every bite.
It’s a nice concept, adding a curry tang to your kebab, and loading it up with chicken and beef meat is definitely the way to go.
It’s on for a limited time, so get down to GDK and get your teeth into a unique and tasty treat.
