West Brom star: Credit deserved for not 'shying away'

One of Albion’s stars of the season and Saturday’s success at West Ham praised the way the side approached the second half in London.

Albion star Callum Styles praised his side’s mentality to take the game to West Ham in the second half of Saturday’s fine London Stadium success.

James Morrison’s men emerged deserved 3-1 winners on a statement afternoon for the Baggies as they climbed to fourth in the Championship against one of the division’s favourites for promotion.

Left-back Styles continued his outstanding campaign yet again with a fine strike for Albion’s third - a third goal of the season already - to cap a memorable afternoon.

Morrison’s side were unfortunate to have been pegged back to 1-1 at half-time, after Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser flicked in off Styles, and the Hungarian talked up the team’s response.

"To come to a place like this, to score the first goal the way we did - that was an unbelievable team goal,” Styles told BBC Radio WM.

"And then to keep going until the end, the second half was top from the boys, I thought, we had to weather the storm at times and it was a massive three points.

"They are one of the best individual teams in the Championship, their players can create a moment out of nothing.

"We came in at half-time and it could've gone either way. We could've shied down and been a bit cagey, but obviously that's not the team we are this season and we came out very strong together and put our stamp on the second half.”

Felix Horn Myhre had opened the scoring for the Baggies with a wonderful team goal before Bowen’s equaliser.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan netted within three minutes of the restart to cap another fine flowing move before Styles sealed the win inside the final 20 minutes.

"It's not only him, it's the whole staff, there's a change of mentality around the place,” Styles said of Morrison and his backroom team.

"Him and his coaching staff bring a massive amount of belief around the place and we work hard week in, week out to build those relationships to work hard and not go in our shell.

"When the going gets tough we stick together and get through those periods to put our stamp on the second half.”
