'Dominate' - Star sets Wolves challenge after morale-boosting win
Saturday saw an improved performance from Cesar Peixoto’s side.
Fer Lopez says Wolves must aim to dominate opponents after claiming they set the standard with Saturday’s 3-0 win over Cardiff.
Cesar Peixoto’s men recorded their biggest win since August to move third in the Championship.
Lopez set the ball rolling by netting a 10th minute opener with what he later claimed was his first ever headed goal.
The 22-year-old, who took his tally to seven for the season, explained how the focus had been on pushing on after Wolves were guilty of sitting back when going ahead in recent matches.
Goals from Adam Armstrong and Ladislav Krejci sealed a comfortable win and Lopez said: “It is in our nature to improve that, when we score the first goal to go more and more.
“You cannot do it always but yeah, I think we showed that (on Saturday).
“Especially against those type of teams at home, we need to show the first 10 minutes we want to win - not only win but dominate. I think we showed that in the first half.”
Lopez, who was back in the team after sitting out the previous weekend’s 1-0 win over Watford with a calf niggle, is targeting a strong week with Wolves travelling to Bristol City and Wrexham before the international break.
The Spain under-21 star believes he is beginning to get to grips with both the Championship’s physical style and its hectic schedule.
“It’s mental,” he said. “I was happy to get some rest the last game because I was injured a bit and Saturday I felt much better, back to my best I think.
“I need a bit of rest sometimes because I am not used to this league, playing so many games. I am happy to help the team.
“It is crazy, so many games. In this league you have to be 100 per cent in terms of physical level, everything.
“In terms of physicality you have to be right on it because otherwise it is so difficult to compete. There are many good players and it is very physical.”
Lopez nodded Wolves in front after latching on to Hugo Bueno’s clever pass and said: “I think it is the only goal I have scored in my life with my head. I don’t usually score them.
“I looked and saw the keeper was out of position and then I just dived. Luckily, it went in.”
