EGYPTAIR flew its very first service between Birmingham Airport (BHX) and Cairo International Airport (CAI) on Sunday (October 25).
The new route, operating four times a week, is BHX’s first and only direct connection to the Egyptian capital where travellers can see the Pyramids of Giza, visit the Grand Egyptian Museum or cruise along the Nile.
Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer at Birmingham Airport, said: “We’re thrilled to see EGYPTAIR’s inaugural flight take off from Birmingham Airport.
“We’re confident this will be a popular route for those looking to get away to enjoy some winter sun and explore what Cairo has to offer.
“This service will also support the Egyptian community across the Midlands, making it easier to stay connected with loved ones and travel for business purposes.”
To celebrate the inaugural flight, the airport hosted a ceremonial cake cutting on Sunday with special gifts handed to passengers flying out on the airline’s Boeing 737 Max 8.
Captain Mohamed Elian, chairman and CEO of EGYPTAIR Airlines said: “EGYPTAIR is pleased to launch its first service to Birmingham, marking the addition of a new destination to its expanding global network and establishing Birmingham as its third destination in the United Kingdom.
“This new service will connect Birmingham seamlessly to EGYPTAIR’s extensive network across Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East, offering passengers enhanced travel options and convenient connections to a wide range of destinations worldwide.”
The new service operates from Birmingham on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
