A lorry carrying a large unsecured storage container has been seized during a road safety operation in Dudley.

Neighbourhood and specialist traffic officers from West Midlands Police teamed up with Staffordshire Police on a targeted crackdown on commercial vehicles breaking the law.

The operation took place in Kingswinford on Wednesday (March 25) with support from the DVSA, HMRC fuel testing unit, and licensing and waste teams from Wolverhampton, Dudley and Staffordshire councils.

Officers on motorbikes and in patrol cars stopped a range of vehicles, including cars, trucks and 4x4s towing trailers. Drivers’ details were checked and vehicles inspected.

A flatbed lorry was seized after officers found it had no licence, no insurance and no operator’s licence. The vehicle was also carrying an unsecured load, and three people were found sitting in a two-seater cab.

Elsewhere, a truck transporting scaffolding was ordered to secure its load, while another vehicle was found to be overweight and had broken taillights.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “A huge thank you to all our partner agencies who joined us in our continued efforts to create safer roads for everyone.

“We regularly conduct road operations like this and work alongside our communities and partners to create safer roads for everyone, deterring criminals who abuse the road network.

“Your safety is our number one priority, and we are committed to reducing the number of fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.”
