Date and time to catch a glimpse of Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Dakota at Cosford RAF Museum

There will be three flypasts on Sunday (June 21) - here’s when and where to catch a glimpse.

The RAF Muesum has confirmed the date and time visitors can see an iconic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fly past.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Dakota is scheduled to carry out three flypasts over the RAF Museum Midlands this weekend (Sunday, June 21).

The aircraft is a Douglas Dakota Mk III, registration ZA947, which was built in 1942 and originally served during the Second World War as military transport, carrying troops, supplies, and equipment for Allied operations.

After many years of service with different operators, the aircraft eventually joined the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in 1993. It is the only transport aircraft in the BBMF, alongside Spitfires, Hurricanes, and a Lancaster bomber. It is often seen at airshows and commemorative events across the country.

Nowadays, the Dakota is still flown regularly and is used for display flying, parachute drops, and training support. It represents the vital but often less recognised transport role in WWII, helping to honour the aircrews who flew behind the front lines.

Spectators can catch a glimpse of the aircraft while visiting the RAF Museum in Cosford on Sunday (June 21) at around 4.16pm. Entry to the Museum is free.
