Man charged following series of shop thefts in Walsall

A man is set to appear in court after being arrested and charged with thefts from several stores.

Marc Challener has been charged with thefts from stores in Walsall town centre and Pelsall between November 22 and December 16.

The 45-year-old from Shelfield was also charged with two offences of using threatening or abusive, insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence on both November 26 and 27.

He will appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on January 14 for a first hearing.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We’ve arrested and charged a man with thefts from shops in Walsall.

"Marc Challener, aged 45, from Shelfield, will appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on January 14 for a first hearing.

"He is charged with thefts from stores in Walsall town centre and Pelsall between November 22 and December 16.

"He is also charged with two offences of using threatening or abusive, insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence on both November 26 and 27.

"This work is part of the national Winter of Action initiative where we are working with partners in town centres across the region tackling crime, reassuring communities, and ensuring our high streets are welcoming and safe for everyone #SaferStreetsWinter

"Combatting shop thefts is a priority at Walsall LPA and we launched Op Marigold in a bid to tackle shop thefts across the Walsall borough.
