Detectives say their investigation into the murder of a schoolboy in Wolverhampton nearly 18 months ago will continue despite no-one being charged.

An inquest hearing for 15-year-old Keelan Wilson had been told a suspect could be charged this month.

But officers informed Keelan's mother Kelly Ellitts last week that they were not currently in a position to charge anyone.

West Midlands Police said it remained committed to bringing Keelan's killers before the courts and to get justice for the teenager.

A force spokeswoman said: "We are still following a number of lines of inquiry, the investigation continues and still has dedicated staff working towards obtaining justice for Keelan and his family."

It has been an agonising time for Ms Ellitts since her son was stabbed to death as he tended to a broken-down car on Strathfield Walk, Merry Hill, in May 2018.

But she insists she still has confidence in the police and the work they are doing.

She said: "They just said they are happy with the way things are going, that they are looking into a few more things and it is still ongoing. I did think they were going to have some sort of decision."

Ms Ellitts added: "I was expecting some better news but the fact they are still working on things shows there are things to work on.

"As much as I want these people to be taken to court I don't want them (the police) to get anything wrong either, we have got one chance to get justice and I don't want them to mess it up. I have just got to have faith and hope."
