Man arrested after attack on Birmingham pensioner

A man has been arrested after a pensioner was assaulted after getting off a bus in Birmingham.

The victim, aged in his 70s, was knocked to the ground in Brighton Road, in Balsall Heath.

He suffered cuts to his nose and elbows in the assault that took place last Tuesday afternoon.

West Midlands Police officers arrested a man from Longbride on suspicion of assault on Wednesday morning. He is currently in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Jim Church, from force CID, said: "We have received an overwhelming response from the public which has helped us to make this arrest.

"Enquiries are continuing and we would urge anyone with information which may assist us to come forward."

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident number 20BE/238046Q/18.
