Michael Williams admitted violent disorder and he was also banned from attending any football match for seven years at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Williams, aged 39 of Bushbury Lane, had watched the game which Wolves lost 3-2 on TV in a pub near the ground but he joined what was described as a large scale disturbance after the final whistle.
Prosecutor Mr Mark Rees said the attack was caught on CCTV and it involved a number of other Wolves fans who also kicked out at the supporter.
Mr Michael Anning, defending, said Williams whose record included offences of robbery, wounding and assault had kicked out just once.
Recorder Christopher Hotten told Williams he had joined in a brutal attack on the Blues fan who was on the ground and only a substantial prison term was appropriate. The Recorder said he had an "unenviable" criminal record and he ruled the 20-month term should run consecutively to the prison sentence he is currently serving for dishonesty.
