A football fan went on a 310-mile charity run in honour of his Midlands footballing hero – and was greeted by the star at the end of the gruelling challenge.

Pete Gough, 40, ran from Celtic Park in Glasgow to Villa Park in Birmingham in aid of Cure Leukaemia. And as the Aston Villa fan came to the end of the mammoth run on Saturday, he was met by the club's ex-captain Stiliyan Petrov.

The footballer was diagnosed with the disease last year. He is now in remission but has retired.

Mr Gough, from Shrewsbury, completed 11 marathons in 12 days. He has so far raised more than £5,300. Anyone still wishing to sponsor him can do so at www.justgiving.com/pete-gough3
