Woman dies after West Midlands house fire - police launch appeal as tributes paid
Shivani Rana died several days after the fire, which broke out at a house, and police have asked for information as part of the investigation.
A police appeal has been launched for information after a woman died following a fire at a house in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police said it was called at around 11.55pm on October 31 to reports of a fire at the property on Mount Pleasant Avenue in Handsworth Wood.
The force said that Shivani Rana, aged 40, was one of five people in the property at the time and was taken to hospital but died on November 3.
Four other people were in the property at the same time, with a man aged 33 remaining in hospital in critical but stable condition, another woman received treatment for a minor injury to her hand, while two other men escaped without injury.
Ms Rana’s family, which is being supported by specially trained officers, paid tribute to a woman they described as deeply loved.
The tribute said: “Shivani was a beloved daughter, sister and cherished member of our family.
"She was loved deeply, and her presence brought happiness and warmth into our lives.

Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell, leading the investigation, said: “We are still trying to establish exactly how the fire started, and if it was started deliberately.
"We’ve been working closely with West Midlands Fire Service, and carrying out a number of enquiries since Saturday night’s tragic events.
"Our officers have been reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses, but really need to hear from anyone with information who may be able to help the investigation.
"If you were in the area at the time and have any mobile phone or dashcam footage, it’s really important you get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“Get in touch with us via 101 or Live Chat, quoting 5520 of 31 October.”
