Commuters left facing disruption after faults reported with trains and trams across West Midlands
Commuters were left facing disruption and diversions after two different fault incidents were reported on the rail network across the region.
Rail passengers in Staffordshire were left with rail replacement bus services and delays after a train broke down at Hednesford, while passengers on the Snow Hill Line faced delays due to a signalling issue at Jewellery Quarter.
Meanwhile, Metro passengers were left facing disruption due to a tram being out of service on the line between Wolverhampton Station and Edgbaston Village.
Both rail issues were reported by West Midlands Railway, with the issue at Jewellery Quarter reported at 6am and Hednesford at 7.15am, and while the rail provider said it expected both problems to be fixed by 8.30am, it said there would be another 30 minutes of disruption before serviced returned to normal.
For the issue at Jewellery Quarter, a spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: "Due to an issue with the signals at the Jewellery Quarter, fewer trains can pass through the area.
"Staff are investigating but services will be delayed, please check before travel.
"Your tickets are valid to travel on the local National Express buses between Birmingham and Stourbridge."
For the issue at Hednesford, a spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: "Due to a broken down train, some services will start and terminate at Hednesford.
"Rail replacement will run between Hednesford and Rugeley and your tickets are valid to travel on the local National Express buses between Birmingham and Walsall.
A later update at 7.30am said: "Trains are now starting to run between Hednesford and Rugeley, we will keep the bus ticket acceptance and rail replacement transport in place while services return to normal.
"Your tickets are now valid to travel on National Express buses between Birmingham and Coventry."
For the Metro issue, a spokesman for West Midlands Metro said: "Trams are operating between Wolverhampton Station & Edgbaston Village.
"There are delays to service due to a tram missing from service."
