The team at Allan Bennett Butchers were in high spirits after its Sunshine Sausage was named the nation's best.

It was the fourth time the Codsall butchers walked away winners of the Champion of Champions awards.

Steven Bennett, who works alongside father Allan at the Station Road butchers, said: "The sausage was created for the barbecue season, specifically the Q Guild Barbecue competition in early summer.

"We wanted to go down the Mediterranean route and to give a bright, summery name.

"One judge on the panel praised the entry for their 'uniformity and consistency in size and shape', the fact they were 'well-filled and had a nice mix of flavours that complemented each other well and were different to any other sausage entered into the competition'".

The butchers picked up the title for its Mediterranean-inspired recipe - using local pork, garlic, tomato, oregano and basil - at a London prize-giving ceremony in November.

It previously won the award in 2004, 2009 and 2012.
