A picturesque village in the West Midlands has been named among the UK’s prettiest places you should explore this summer.

The Independent recently ranked the country’s prettiest villages that you should explore this summer.

And anyone who’s visited Welford-on-Avon in Warwickshire will be unsurprised to see it make the list.

Welford-on-Avon is certainly one of the region’s most picturesque villages.

It rests on the River Avon, about four miles west of Stratford-upon-Avon and roughly 30 miles from Birmingham, and the setting does most of the talking; it’s situated near the North Cotswolds, providing easy access to Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, and the surrounding countryside.

One of the most striking features of Welford-on-Avon is its exceptionally tall 65ft maypole, which stands proudly in the centre of the village and is one of the tallest in England.

In winter, the whole place slows down in the best way. The cottages look even more storybook when the air is crisp.

The lanes feel peaceful. Everything feels designed for a quiet walk, a cosy pub lunch, or a slow morning by the water.

Best places to eat?

Some highlights include The Four Alls for Mediterranean-inspired dishes with river views and The Bell Inn, a highly rated gastropub serving traditional British fare.

The village offers cosy, traditional, and high-quality options, many of them dog-friendly.
