Revised 2.152cc engine has far more power than the original.

Boreham Motorworks has unveiled its first near-production version of its upgraded Ford Escort MK1 RS.

UK-based Boreham specialises in the restoration of iconic Ford road, race and rally cars. The Escort MK1 RS is its latest creation, having first been revealed at the end of 2024.

Debuted in front of the public for the first time at the London Councours, the Ford Escort MK1 RS has been engineered as a new car from the ground up, with extensive upgrades which aim to make this car better and more focused to drive than the original.

A new steel body has been engineered to cater for an upgraded powertrain, while carbon fibre has been used for components such as the bonnet and boot panels to reduce weight. The headlight uses LED technology for modern performance with the same classic look as the original.

Inside, there are bespoke seat and steering wheel designs, and while old-school mechanical window and door latch systems have been equipped for a classic feel, the Escort still gets more modern comfort-focused features such as electric heating and cooling, alongside an illuminated switchgear.

The RS will be offered with two engine options. The first is a traditional twin-cam which relates back to the setup found in the original. Then, there’s a new Boreham-made naturally aspirated 2.152-litre inline-four which develops close to 330bhp and features a 10,000rpm redline. Other features which contribute to this engine’s high performance are a carbon fibre air box and a full stainless steel exhaust system. Billet-made and forged components ensure that the engine setup weighs just 85kg.

Fully licensed by Ford Motor Company, the Escort MK1 RS will be limited to 150 examples worldwide, though Boreham has not disclosed a price.
