Wyre Forest theatre group brings back popular Sleeping Beauty pantomime

Limelight is reviving its sell-out production 12 years after its first run, with familiar faces returning for four performances at The Civic in Stourport

Kicking off the Christmas season, a leading Wyre Forest theatre group is reviving one of its popular pantos, Sleeping Beauty, for a limited run 12 years after the production first delighted audiences.

Limelight’s festive fairy tale was originally a sell-out at The Rose Theatre Kidderminster in January 2014 and with funnyman Scott Denton back in the role of the Dame, the group is hoping for another smash hit, this time at The Civic, Stourport.

Also returning as one half of the comedy duo, in a role he made his own over several Limelight pantos, is the hilarious Andy Bunn, sparring this time with the brilliant Mike Green, a leading light in the Monday Night Group pantos.

Andy’s daughter, gifted dancer and performer Daisy–Mae Bunn, who played Sandy in Limelight’s 2023 production of Grease and who was one of the tiny tot dancers in the 2014 panto production, takes on the title role.

Limelight regulars Zoe Darkes and Harriet Edwards take on the role of the evil Carabosse, Laura Attwell is Fairy Sapphire, while Fairy Ruby is played by Jade Foster and the comic Fairy Emerald role is shared between Faith Evans and Vicky Parry. The ensemble is made up of dancers from Splinters.

Paul Standing returns to the role of Cosmo and Jamie Attwell is Prince Rupert. Young performers Edith-Jane Gillam and Bambi-Mai Owen-Jones star as Carabosse’s minions.

Director and Choreographer Jane Bennett said she was ‘thrilled’ to showcase Sleeping Beauty to a new generation and to introduce the dancers to the fun of panto performance.

Jane, who also wrote the script, added: “It’s been several years since we’ve done panto, having concentrated on producing a string of successful musicals and we’re really looking forward to this revival. We’ve brought together a brilliant cast, who are so talented and funny.

“Andy and Mike, as special Agents Horrel and Lardy, work so well together and are just hilarious, Daisy-Mae is sensational and I’m absolutely over the moon to have Scott back as the Dame, in a part I wrote for him especially.”

Sleeping Beauty runs from Friday 13 November to Sunday November 15, with performances at 7pm Friday, 2pm and 7pm Saturday, and 1pm Sunday.

Tickets are priced £12 for adults, £10 for children under 16, and are available from ticketsource.co.uk/limelight, [email protected] or the civic box office. For group bookings, with no booking fee, email Limelight.
