The annual service provides an opportunity for the local community to remember and honour those who lost their lives serving their country.

The future of the service has been given a boost after former Mayor Councillor Craig Collingswood arranged a £600 donation from ward funds during his mayoral year in 2025/26.

Organisers said the money would cover the costs of the memorial service for several years, helping the annual tradition to continue.

Councillor Collingswood is pictured with organisers Terry Cole, landlord of the Royal Oak, and Philip Farmer, alongside the memorial's currently unnamed Tommy figure.

Postcards have also been produced to encourage local people to attend this year's service.

Details of the arrangements will be available at the Royal Oak and Chidit pubs.

Residents will also be able to find out how they can contribute towards the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the memorial.

Organisers said donations of any size would help ensure the memorial remains cared for and preserved for future generations.
