Darts world champion to join open day at new Stourbridge training centre
New facility aims to help tackle shortage of skilled energy engineers
A new energy training centre in Stourbridge is set to open its doors to employers and prospective learners next week.

Smart Energy Training will hold an open day at its newly acquired centre at Unit 4, Stambermill Industrial Estate, Timmis Road, on Tuesday, August 4.
The event will give people working in the gas, plumbing, heating and renewable energy sectors the chance to view the new facility, while those interested in starting a career or developing their skills will be able to find out more about the training available.
Visitors will be able to meet the local team, explore the centre and learn more about apprenticeships and short courses. Food will also be available during the event.
Former plumber and 2008 BDO World Champion Mark Webster, now a Sky Sports darts pundit, will also be attending to take on visitors in a special darts challenge. Anyone who can beat him in a nine-dart challenge will win a prize.
Smart Energy Training acquired Stourbridge-based Elements Training & Assessment, which was founded in 2016 by Matthew Stonehouse and his father Ian, earlier this year.
Director Paul Drew said: “We are excited to host this open day in Stourbridge, giving people the chance to see what we are all about in a relaxed and fun setting.
“There will be a chance to explore the new centre, meet the team and talk about the apprenticeships and programmes available, as well as enjoying a free lunch.”
He added that the centre would support the development of future gas, plumbing, electrical and low-carbon engineers.
The training provider says the expansion comes as the industry faces a shortage of skilled workers, with demand for new engineers expected to increase as the UK moves towards lower-carbon energy.
The open day will take place from 8am to 2pm.
Smart Energy Training became part of Realise Training Group in March last year and has expanded from one centre to five since the acquisition, with further growth planned.
