Daniel Ward won the West Midlands Individual Snooker Championship for the fifth time, with a dominant display in defeating Paul Deaville 4-0.

Ward controlled the match from the outset, with a 32 break being enough to secure a scrappy opening frame, and a 63 break in the next frame proved to be the highlight of the match as Ward moved 2-0 ahead.

Deaville could not seem to get going, but that was mainly due to limited opportunities provided by Ward, who made breaks of 36 and 34 to complete a whitewash victory.

It is Ward’s fifth title win, 20 years after his first, and moves him level with Robbie James, who has also won this title five times - but still two short of Alan Barnett's record seven titles won between 1949 and 1972.

A delighted Ward said: "I did not realise it was 20 years ago that I won it for the first time, but I am enjoying playing now more than I did when I won it then."

When asked whether he would be chasing Barnett's record of seven titles, Ward humbly replied:, "I will be chasing number six next year and let's see from there".

Simon Hickman won the Individual Plate after a 4-0 victory over Oliver Spooner, while Joshua Walker is the new Under-25s Handicap champion after emerging victorious from a gruelling semi-final and final at Landywood Snooker Club.

He saw off brother Lucas Walker in the last four before toppling cousin Riley Walker in the final - sealing it with a competition best 94 break.
