Lucas Herbert reveals confidence boost behind record-breaking LIV Golf UK triumph
Herbert held off Tyrrell Hatton and Bryson DeChambeau to win the event in Staffordshire.
Lucas Herbert relished the challenge of fending off golf’s biggest stars as he rewrote the record books to win LIV Golf UK in Staffordshire.
The Australian produced a sensational display at JCB Golf & Country Club near Uttoxeter, breaking several records on his way to a commanding victory.
After opening with a course-record 11-under-par 61, Herbert followed up with rounds of 66, 69 and a brilliant closing 62 to finish on 30 under par.

In holding off home favourite Tyrrell Hatton and two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, Herbert also set a new LIV Golf League record for the lowest winning score.
It came just a week after he equalled the lowest round ever recorded at a major championship with a 61 at The Open at Royal Birkdale - something Herbert said gave him a huge confidence boost.
“Last week gave me a lot of confidence that I can mix it with the best guys,” he said.
“I just wanted to really carry that into this week the best I could. I think I got out of my own way the first two rounds and I started thinking about it yesterday.
“It was just good to play like that today when I was being pushed by two of the best players in the world.”
Herbert also set LIV Golf records for the most birdies in a single tournament (30) and the most combined birdies and eagles (32).

He pocketed a $4 million individual cheque, as well as a share of the $3 million team prize after Ripper GC claimed the team title. Team-mate Cam Smith also impressed, finishing fourth on 17 under par.
Home favourite Hatton piled on the pressure with a bogey-free final-round 63 to finish runner-up for the second time in three years at JCB.
The Ryder Cup star was full of praise for Herbert’s performance.
“Lucas played amazing today,” Hatton said. “I wanted to get off to a fast start, which is what I did, but unfortunately Lucas did as well.
“I'm very proud of how I played. It would have been amazing to win in front of home fans, but I tried my best. But actually, Lucas was incredible this week.”
