Lucas Herbert pockets $4m after runaway LIV Golf UK triumph in Staffordshire

Home favourite Tyrrell Hatton falls short as Herbert dominates LIV Golf UK.

Lucas Herbert produced another scintillating display to cruise to victory at LIV Golf UK in Staffordshire.

The Australian carded a brilliant 10-under-par 62 in the final round at JCB Golf & Country Club near Uttoxeter to finish an astonishing 30 under par, sealing the title by six shots.

Herbert pocketed the $4 million winner’s prize, as well as a share of a further $3 million after Rippers GC, featuring former Open champion Cam Smith, claimed the team title.

Herbert set the tone from the opening day, blitzing the field with a course-record 11-under 62 before backing it up with rounds of 66 and 69 to take a commanding lead into Sunday.

Home favourite Tyrrell Hatton did everything he could to apply pressure, firing an excellent nine-under-par final round, but ultimately had to settle for second place on 23 under.

It marked the second time Hatton has finished runner-up at JCB Golf & Country Club, having also placed second two years ago. He still collected $2.25 million for his efforts.

Two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, who attracted huge galleries throughout the week, finished third on 21 under, with Smith a further four shots back in fourth.

It was the third successive year LIV Golf has staged an event at JCB. However, its long-term future remains uncertain after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced it would step back from funding at the end of the year, having invested almost £4 billion since the circuit launched in 2021.

The breakaway league is now seeking around £260 million of fresh investment to secure its future.
