Solbakken: Weiser is on my shortlist

Wolves boss Stale Solbakken today confirmed Patrick Weiser is on the shortlist to become the club's new coach with an appointment expected within 14 days – and a loan player set to sign this week.

Former Cologne assistant manager Weiser watched Saturday's 1-0 win at Blackburn and is well-known to Solbakken, having been promoted by him at the Bundesliga club last season. "Patrick is one of the guys who we've been talking to for a long time," said Solbakken. "He's also someone I know from before.

"We're monitoring the situation and have been in touch with a few others.

"I'll probably have one or two more chats with people this week and then hopefully we'll solve it within the next 14 days."

Solbakken would not say if Weiser is in pole position, adding: "There are no favourites and it would be stupid to say that at the moment."

The Norwegian had initially said he wanted a British coach and Alex Inglethorpe, Sammy Lee, Kevin MacDonald and Irishman Kenny Cunningham have all been linked with the vacancy caused by Terry Connor's departure.

Meanwhile, Solbakken is hopeful of signing a winger on loan, with Manchester United left-sided midfielder Robbie Brady among those in the frame.

"We've done some research and there's something we want to test out and we'll see this week if it's possible," said the boss.

"Because Slawomir Peszko and Razak Boukari are out for quite a long time, the wide area could be one we want to improve.

"We're working on something but I've left it with Jez Moxey. The list isn't very long because it's difficult to do something at this time of year. There are some suggestions but with some of them, we're seeing if they're realistic or not."

Asked about Brady, Solbakken said: "I won't go into names." He confirmed Wolves' interest in re-signing Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on loan, but hinted a deal could be some time away.
