Rafa Benitez calls for United front ahead of Wolves clash

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has called for his team to be 'united' as they look to bounce back from Saturday's league defeat to Wolves.

The Magpies welcome Walter Zenga's team for the second time in four days looking for instant revenge for that 2-0 loss.

Benitez said he has 'tried to fix' the problems his team encountered on Saturday, in which they were out-fought by Zenga's side.

The Spaniard said ahead of Tuesday's game: "We need to be united, like the name of the team. We need the fans to stick with the team.

"We're a team that has to improve. That message has been consistent from me.

"The team needs the right mentality. Now is the time to realise it's not a parade. We have to work hard in every single game.

"If we want to stay at the top we have to manage games like Saturday. Sometimes you can't win but we can't lose.

"We have tried to fix the problems from Saturday. We will make some changes to keep everyone on their toes.

"Everyone can help and make a difference. All the players have to be ready."

The likes of Ciaran Clark, Yoan Gouffran, Jack Colback and DeAndre Yedlin didn't get off the bench on Saturday and will expect to play, while Aleksandar Mitrovic may be also brought in.

Benitez suggested that Daryl Murphy, who moved from Ipswich last month, will be handed his Newcastle debut.

And he added: "We have watched the game back and have been talking to the staff and players; analysing what was wrong and trying to fix the problems.

"We made technical and tactical mistakes.

"It could be that Daryl starts – that is one of the options we have. Some players will get an opportunity to replicate what they have been doing in the training sessions because I have been very happy with them there. They will get a chance during the games.

"He was not involved because we had other strikers, and we were winning. But he has been really good in the training sessions, so we will see if he can do the same during the games."

Midfielder Mo Diame admitted he didn't know what went wrong for Newcastle at the weekend.

He said: "It's normal for the manager to be upset whenever we are not doing anything right.

"Against Wolves we didn't but we have to keep the confidence and keep looking forward to the next game.

"To be honest I don't know what went wrong.

"But we are all really disappointed. It was an important game for us because we were at home and we have just had a great result away.

"It was important to confirm that result but we didn't and we have to make sure we don't lose the confidence we had because we know we have got a quality squad so we just need to come back, work hard and be ready for the next match.

"Early on we felt something wasn't right in our play. Normally we always get the possession and provide a good tempo in the game but against Wolves we were playing the wrong way for whatever reason."
