Paul Lambert quickly immersing himself in Wolves

He's only been in charge for a week or so – but Paul Lambert is fully embracing his new club.

The head coach began by meeting local media ahead of his press conference last Monday.

He has since met all staff at the club, both at Compton Park and Molineux, as well as hosting a meeting with supporters.

He's even toured the club's museum, as the Scot bids to find as much about Wolves as he can.

"It's been really good so far," he told the Express & Star.

"I went down to the stadium the other day and said hello to everyone in all the different departments, because the club needs everybody to work together.

"I was in the museum the other day and it's absolutely brilliant.

"There were some things you remember when you were growing up as a kid.

"I remember Andy Gray scoring in that League Cup final (against Nottingham Forest in 1980) – it was the strip with the three wolves on it. That was my era growing up.

"You still remember these things. The museum was fascinating to have a look around.

"But the whole club – the facilities really are excellent. That's the beauty about the club, it's got everything here already, plus the fanbase behind it. Any football person knows the size of it, and the history attached to it. You want the stadium to be full – we'll try and get people in.

"If I'm fortunate to get it going it could be really great." Lambert requested to meet some of the club's supporters who write blogs and other online content last week, to get a feel of their opinions and what they are writing about Wolves.

The club facilitated the off-the-record chat, held with fans who run websites, blogs, or even write in the Express & Star's regular 'verdict' article, run after every match. "It was interesting," Lambert added. "The fans will be here long after I'm here, so it's important to get a feel for it, and how they think about things here. It was interesting to hear what they had to say, and I told them what I'm going to try and do here.

"Every club is different on its own merit. But the fan expectation level will always be there, at every club. And quite rightly so – it's their club and they want to see success. Every club you see certain things you can try to change, or keep, but the expectancy level is always the same."

Lambert has yet to meet all of his squad, with some having been away on international duty. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Dominic Iorfa, Kortney Hause and Romain Saiss are all due back by Thursday, while David Edwards has already returned from a stint with Wales.

"The only downside has been we don't get everybody back until Thursday," he said of training.

"Other than that it's been really good. The lads have been, as you'd probably expect with a new manager coming in, excellent and have raised things a little bit. But the proof's in the games – that's the bottom line."
