Wolves chief executive has revealed the club has received a formal written takeover offer from former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness.

In an official statement, Moxey said: "I can confirm that following the signing of confidentiality agreements this evening, we have now received a formal written offer for the Club on behalf of Graeme Souness and others.

"Both parties have agreed not to make any further public comments."

Moxey denied on Tuesday that Wolves were negotiating with ex-Newcastle boss Souness about a takeover.

He was later to learn that the man he had invited to Molineux on New Year's Day to see the Barnsley game had told this newspaper an offer had been rejected.

It is game on for Souness to take over at Wolves. But would a Souness-led regime take Wolves back to the top flight?
