McCarthy watched Spurs in their last game, their 3-1 defeat at Blackpool 11 days ago, when they were missing a host of players.

Spurs are again set to be without key man Gareth Bale as he recovers from a back injury while Ledley King (groin), Vedran Corluka (ankle), Younes Kaboul (knee), and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) are all out.

Jermain Defoe is expected to be fit despite picking up a minor ankle injury during their five-day training camp in Dubai.

McCarthy, whose scouts watch all opponents four times before Wolves play them, came up with a masterplan in their shock 1-0 win at Spurs last season.

Matt Jarvis and Stephen Ward blocked off dangerman Aaron Lennon. Wolves completed the double over them this time last year and are chasing their third Champions League scalp at Molineux after Chelsea and Manchester United.

And the Wolves boss said: "We'll have a gameplan because they are not easy to stop.

"I've been looking at them again this week - I know they played 4-4-2 against Blackpool's 4-3-3, but that game was so crazy, it could have been 6-3 or 7-3. Had they got one just after half-time when it got to 2-1, it would have gone like a pack of cards.

"But it didn't and the longer it went on, you could see Blackpool catching them on the break because they were getting so many men forward."

McCarthy has picked out another dangerman this time around.

He added: "Jermaine Jenas came on as sub at Blackpool and I thought he was terrific."
